Actis Junior High School History

Actis Junior High School

Established in 1979, Actis Junior High School has continued in its rich tradition of excellence in areas such as academics, music, athletics, as well as maintaining a safe and healthy environment for student learning. Located in southwest Bakersfield, Actis is the second oldest junior high in the Panama Buena Vista Union School District.

The Actis Junior High School staff is a committed community of educators working interdependently, focused on student learning to achieve proficiency for all. At Actis we believe in providing a rigorous curriculum that meets the needs of individual students academically, physically, emotionally, and socially in a safe and supportive learning environment. Skills conducive to the development of critical thinking, responsible decision-making, productive citizenship, and individual creativity are taught as an integral part of the core curriculum and are applied to learning that is relevant in higher education and real life. Each child has access to a comprehensive instructional program consisting of the core curriculum: reading, English, history, math, science, and physical education.  Actis students are also offered a wide variety of elective classes such as instrumental and vocal music, woodworking, art, life skills, study skills, sports officiating and computer science.

Extra curricular activities for Actis students include student government, oral language festival, speech contest intramural sports, science fair, and after school sports.

As the African proverb says, “It takes a village to raise a child”, our hope is that those involved in the educational development of young people will work together in creating an Actis American that our city, county, state, and country would be proud of.
